DAW Integration Setup

MCP Native Integration Guide

Overview

Ableton Live supports MCP through the AbletonOSC protocol, enabling direct AI-to-DAW communication. This allows Claude AI and other LLMs to control your DAW, compose music, and automate production workflows using natural language.

Prerequisites

  • Ableton Live 11 or later (Suite recommended)
  • Python 3.8+ installed on your system
  • Max for Live (included in Ableton Live Suite)

Installation Steps

1
Install AbletonOSC

Download and install the AbletonOSC Max for Live device

git clone https://github.com/ideoforms/AbletonOSC.git
2
Install MCP Server

Set up the Ableton MCP server to enable AI communication

pip install ableton-mcp-server
3
Load AbletonOSC in Live

Drag the AbletonOSC.amxd device onto any MIDI track in your Live set. The device will establish communication on port 11000 by default.

4
Configure Eclipsa Plugin

Install the Eclipsa Audio MCP plugin (VST3/AU) in your Ableton plugins folder

Enter your API key in the plugin settings:

Settings - API Key - Paste your Eclipsa API key

Usage & Features

*Natural Language Control: Use plain English to create music: "Create a 4-bar drum loop with a kick on every beat"

*Track Management: Automatically create tracks, add instruments, and route audio

*MIDI Generation: Generate MIDI patterns based on genre, mood, or specific instructions

*Spatial Audio: Eclipsa analyzes your stems and returns 3D positioning data automatically

Security & Support

All communication is encrypted with TLS 1.3 and AES-256-GCM

API keys are stored securely and never transmitted in plain text

Audio data is processed in real-time and never stored on our servers
